Question Description:
A video was shown depicting workers on a mountainous terrain struggling for survival. The visual narrative metaphorically compared the workers to animals like bullocks and zebras, while a volcano symbolised their ongoing struggle. Candidates were asked to write a suitable title based on the video and soundscape.

Additionally, a poetry-based task required identifying and matching jumbled poetic lines and sketching the interpreted meaning.

Analysis:
The video-based questions were easier to interpret, especially due to strong visual-sound coherence. However, the poetry interpretation was more difficult due to the abstract nature of the text and the time required to sketch accurately after interpretation.

Part B: Visualisation and Reflection

  • Assessment Type: Design Thinking and Sketching

  • Duration: 45 minutes

  • Marks: 40

  • Difficulty Level: Moderate to Difficult

Question Description:
Candidates had to visually narrate a situation from the perspective of a physically disabled person attempting to cross a railway foot overbridge. The scenario involved the failure of an escalator and required a 10-frame depiction showing the challenges faced.

Analysis:
This task tested empathy, perspective, and real-world design observation. It involved capturing body language, station environment, and structural context. The question was time-consuming and required a clear narrative approach combined with accurate sketching.

Part C: Material Handling and Model Making

  • Assessment Type: Craft Skills, Material Understanding, and Functional Design

  • Duration: 75 minutes

  • Marks: 40

  • Difficulty Level: Moderate to Difficult

Materials Provided:

  • Bamboo Sticks (12 sticks, 30 cm each)

  • Jute Rope (3 metres)

  • Cotton Cloth (Handkerchief size)

  • Colour Paper Strips (16 colours)

Task Instructions:
Create a working windmill model that must rotate, using at least two of the materials listed. Only scissors and glue were allowed; no cutters or tape.

Analysis:
This was the most technically demanding section. Bamboo, being introduced for the first time in the studio test, posed a significant challenge due to its rigidity and limited workability without tools. Candidates needed an understanding of additive construction and basic mechanical principles to create a stable and functional windmill structure.

Craft handling, problem-solving under constraints, and design feasibility were the core skills tested.

NID Studio Test 2025 Exam Review

The exam showcased a shift toward real-world problem-solving and empathetic design challenges. Candidates needed to demonstrate a balanced mix of creativity, craftsmanship, time management, and communication through visuals and models. Emphasis was placed on the process, not just the end result.

Those who were able to empathise, plan effectively, and execute functional ideas with basic materials had a clear advantage.

Hi daksh

As 563 rank in nid dat exam cannot guarantee admission in designing college but it could be a good chance to explore some campus as if you are not from general category as category role plays an important role . But now you can do one thing focus on your strengthening your protofile or preparing for the studio test (bdes) or interview (mdes).

Thanks.

No, IPU (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University) does not accept NID DAT Prelims score for admission to the B.Des (Bachelor of Design) program.

Instead, IPU conducts its own entrance test or may consider CUET (UG) scores for B.Des admissions, depending on the latest admission guidelines. Always refer to the university's official prospectus for the year you're applying to for the final admission criteria.
